•What do you know about wiki?

I don’t have an idea about wiki , but after doing research I found the definition of wiki or what is wiki from: http://www.google.ae/search?hl=en&defl=en&q=define:Wiki&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title
    Definition of wiki:
    1. A website or similar online resource which allows users to add and edit content collectively
    2. This is a website that includes the collaboration of work from many different authors. A wiki site allows anyone to edit, delete, or modify the content on the web

    •How are different to blogs?
In wiki the user can add, edit and change what’s written, while in bolgs you just comment without adding or change others’ comments (it’s an online journal of diary). Also, wiki is larger and has more technical use than blogs for example you can add pictures and files. It is very beneficial for teaching and learning and more creative and attractive.

. Which Wiki includes privacy options?

    http://allthewikis.com/wiki-faqs/best-wiki-classroom-education/
This wiki includes privacy option before creating it to be public

. Which is the easiest to use ?
    http://www.wikispaces.com/site/for/teachers100K
Is the easiest wiki to use because it provides the user with video that shows clearly how to use it and how to create your own wiki

. Why and how could “trust” be an issue ?
Because not all the information that been added or edited or changed by the user is true, so some information that been sited or taken from the wiki can’t not be proofed

    1. From what I understand wikis are websites which people use to post information, articles etc… And other people would have the opportunity to edit the posted information and add references supporting it.

    2. Blogs are posts of people who get comments from other people. While wikis are posts done by someone and other people could change and edit them.

    3. Wikispaces
    http://www.wikispaces.com/site/for/teachers100K
It contained different options to be protected where only people from the website could view and change the post.

    4. The last link http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?WikiDesignPrinciples
It did not really contain many links which made it simple and easy to work through.

    5. Because anyone is able to participate without having reference or certain information on the posted topic. As well as, the fact that people could change and edit other peoples work.

Personally, I like the idea of using wiki in the classroom, and it’s really motivate and encourage me to triy it with my learners. I think this will affects them positively and it will assist their learning process.

1-In fact I wasn’t really sure about the meaning of Wiki, so I had done some research and I found lots of definitions. I will post the clear ones, which made me understand the concept:
a-A wiki is a type of website that allows visitors themselves to easily add, remove and otherwise edit and change some available content, sometimes without the need for registration.
b- A wiki is and online collaboration model and tool that allows any user to edit some content of webpages through a simple browser.
c-A wiki is software that allows users to collaboratively create, edit, link, and organize the content of a website, usually for reference material. Wikis are often used to create collaborative websites and to power community websites.

2-From the research, I understand that in wikis we are allowed to post, edit, delete the content in the web, while with blogs we can only post by adding comments without changing others people’s comments or delete it.

3-I think that this wiki http://www.wikispaces.com/site/for/teachers100K includes privacy option for the members, where, only the members have the permission to view and edit the pages. I addition, it includes other options like public and protected, which are also very useful options.

4-I think that it is difficult to decide which wiki is the best for students to use. That is because teacher needs to consider lots of factors before provide the ss with a wiki to work on. For example, teacher needs to try the wiki by her/himself to ensure that it is easy to use, with proper link to other external web and supported by educators.

5-Trust is an issue in the wiki because in some wiki especially in the public once anyone can edit, delete and modify the information. Therefore, there is a huge argument about whether to trust the posted information or not.

  5. rahma46 Says:

This is our third stop station in our journey to the answer of the question (((why do we need ICT in teaching?))), which will give us info about something called WIKIS.

‘A wiki is a type of website that allows visitors themselves to easily add, remove and otherwise edit and change some available content, sometimes without the need for registration’- from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikis
It is obvious from the definition that the Wikis are less secure than the Blogs, which is the main big difference between both of them. Using Wikis websites allow the readers, who are not necessarily registered to remove, add and change content, while using the Blogs allows them just to post their comments on an article. Moreover, blogs are more active than the wikis, because it encourages the reader to post comments each time there is something added. They are “continues discussion area”.
Despite the disadvantage of the wikis (unsecured), I found that there are wikis that provide privacy to their user such as wikipedia website, that have a special policy for protections http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Protection_policy. As well as http://www.wikispaces.com , that offers a privacy option if you want to join the website and be a member of it.

Furthermore, looking at the ease element, the wiki website that I found it recognized in a way that make it easy for the reader to follow and find what s/he is looking for is http://www.det.wa.edu.au/education/cmis/eval/

For most of the wiki’s users, trust is a significant issue they worried about, that make them concern about how exact is the info that they read. The option of changing and adding in some wikis, increase the level of suspicion believes in its users.

    1. What do you know about Wikis?
Before I really do not have any idea about Wikis, even that is new tool for me I have not heard it before, but after I attended the SKEPSI Conference at Dubai Women’s College, I have an little idea about it. Here is a definition which I have got from there. A Wkiki is software that allows users to collaboratively create and edit simple Web pages.
    2. How are they different to blogs ?
Wiki users can post, edit, re-edit the others people’s comment collaboratively and they also can add any other links, post photographs, links to video and audio. Conversely, in blogs people just could exchange comments with each other with out changing their others work, but we still could share useful links with others.
    3. Which Wiki includes privacy options?
http://www.wikispaces.com/site/for/teachers100K this includes the privacy option, because only the people who have membership or registered people could access to the page and edits the work.
    4. Which is the easiest to use ?
http://www.wikispaces.com/site/for/teachers100K This is the easiest to use because it illustrates the steps of how to create your own wiki page in just 30 second and the page it not confusing too much it has small amount of information, thus it does not lead to dullness while you are using it.
    5. Why and how could “trust” be an issue?
According to the fact that people could change each other’s work and some people may lie. In addition, wikis encourage people to be free mind, so that he/she would make judgment only individually with out being concern of other’s perspective and label any event as ‘good’ or ‘bad’.

Wiki is website were everyone (visitors or members) can edit, remove or add something to it.
-“Wiki is a collaborative website whose content can be edit by anyone who has access to it” (www.answers.com)
-Sometimes visitors need to register in order to edit the content of the website.

-Wikis are different from blogs because it provides the visitors or the members with more opportunities to change the content of the website by adding and removing. Whereas, visitors can write their comment but they can’t edit.

From the given websites, I found that the educational wikispace provides the members with different options before create their own wikis. For example, the wiki Visibility can be for public, protected or private which means that only space members can view and edit pages.

In general, most of the wikis are mad to be easy for users to edit on the content and choose a simple style for the websites. But this website seems the easiest one to use because we can register in 30 seconds. This website is the easiest one that can be used with the students.

-Trust can be an issue in using wikis because everyone can add and remove from the website content so, most of the people can’t trust the information on wikis. Also, I did some research about and the major problems that wikis face is vandalism and people can’t trust wiki because it can be easily access by those people who make damages to the website or the content.
